This presentation explores the essential principles of the trauma-informed framework along with activities and practices school counselors can implement to foster a supportive and resilient school environment. Participants will gain an understanding of the prevalence of trauma in K-12 schools, the paradigm shift needed to implement a trauma-informed framework, and practical strategies for creating a safe and nurturing space that promotes healing and academic success for all students.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER

      

Dr. Tiffany Wilson serves as an Associate Teaching Professor and the Coordinator of the Counselor Education Program at Florida State University. She holds a BA in Communication Studies and a BA in African American Studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. From North Carolina A & T State University, she earned a MS in School Counseling and PhD in Rehabilitation Counseling and Rehabilitation Counselor Education.

Prior to working in academia, Dr. Wilson worked as a Licensed Professional School Counselor and a Licensed Career Development Coordinator in North Carolina public schools. Moreover, she worked as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in various clinical settings. In addition to being a licensed counselor, Dr. Wilson is also a National Certified Counselor, a Board Certified Tele-mental Health Counselor, and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional.

Her research interests include trauma and trauma informed care approaches among minority populations and supporting students with disabilities in the K-12 educational system and in post-secondary institutions.
